In the technology industry, Intel has recently been making waves with its impressive performance in the CPU market. According to the latest statistics from Canalys, a global technology market analyst firm, Intel shipped a whopping 50 million CPUs in the final quarter of 2023. This resulted in Intel maintaining a massive market share of 78%, showcasing a 3% year-on-year growth.
On the other hand, Intel’s main competitor, AMD, only managed to ship eight million CPUs during the same period, holding a market share of 13%. This represented a slight decline of 1% in shipments year on year. Even Apple, a tech giant in its own right, lagged behind with only six million units shipped and a 4% decrease in shipments. The significant difference in CPU shipments between Intel and its competitors is astounding, demonstrating Intel’s strong position in the market.
The desktop and notebook market has been a significant area of growth for Intel, with the company showing dominance over its rivals. While AMD offers competitive desktop chips, such as the Ryzen 7 7800X3D which excels in gaming benchmarks, Intel continues to lead the charge. This is evident in the sheer volume of CPUs shipped by Intel, which is more than three times higher than the combined shipments of AMD and Apple.
The PC notebook sector has also played a crucial role in driving GPU and CPU segments, with laptop and notebook sales accounting for almost 69% of the global CPU market. Team blue, as Intel is often referred to, has maintained a firm grip over the x86 CPU segment, further solidifying its position as a market leader.
While Intel currently enjoys a dominant position in the CPU market, the landscape may soon change with the potential release of new contenders by AMD. The “Granite Ridge” Zen 5 architecture chips are rumored to be launching between April and June of this year, posing a threat to Intel’s market share. Additionally, the new “Strix Point” Zen 5 mobile chips are expected to enter the market later this year, adding to the competition.
Looking ahead, Intel’s plans for the next-generation Arrow Lake desktop CPUs remain under wraps. However, with speculation surrounding a potential reveal at Computex in June, the industry eagerly anticipates a showdown between Intel and AMD in the desktop market. As Intel continues to innovate, it remains to be seen whether AMD’s gains in market share will pose a significant challenge to Intel’s dominance.
Intel’s impressive performance in CPU shipments and its stronghold in the desktop and notebook market are clear indicators of the company’s success. While AMD may be closing the gap in market share, Intel’s continued dominance signals a bright future for the tech giant. As competition heats up in the CPU market, only time will tell whether Intel can maintain its leadership position or if new contenders will disrupt the status quo.
