The Return of Destiny 2’s Infamous Weapons: A Second Chance or a Return to Chaos?

The Return of Destiny 2’s Infamous Weapons: A Second Chance or a Return to Chaos?

Destiny 2 players have a mixed reaction to the news of the infamous trio of weapons – Recluse, The Mountaintop, and Luna’s Howl – making a comeback in the Into the Light update. Bungie acknowledges the overpowered nature of Recluse in its previous state, stating that it was too strong and overshadowed other damage perks. However, with its return, Recluse has been toned down to ensure balance against perks with similar use cases. The reintroduction of Recluse with a reduced damage bonus of 15% aims to prevent the weapon from breaking the game once again.

Similar to Recluse, The Mountaintop has undergone changes to its unique micro-missile perk to maintain balance in both PvE and PvP modes. The intrinsic trait of firing micro-missiles in a straight line rather than a weighted arc remains, but the ability to one-hit kill in PvP has been removed. Bungie’s goal is to make The Mountaintop competitive with other Breech-Loaded Grenade Launchers while enhancing its usability with point-and-aim mechanics.

Lastly, Luna’s Howl, a legendary Competitive PvP weapon notorious for its ability to drop players quickly, has also been revamped. The weapon now requires more precision in delivering final blows to activate its two-tap damage buff. While the two-tap potential remains, players must put in more effort to maintain the buff through successive kills. This adjustment aims to strike a balance between the weapon’s power and the skill required to wield it effectively.

The community’s reception to the return of these iconic weapons is mixed. While some players are excited to revisit these fan-favorites, others are wary of a potential return to the unbalanced era they once dominated. With Bungie’s reassurance of adjustments to prevent game-breaking scenarios, Destiny 2 enthusiasts are hopeful that these weapons will find a place in the game’s current meta without overshadowing other options.

The reintroduction of Recluse, The Mountaintop, and Luna’s Howl in Destiny 2’s Into the Light update comes with a promise of balance and strategic gameplay. As players eagerly anticipate getting their hands on these legendary weapons once again, only time will tell if they have truly been reimagined for a more enjoyable and competitive experience in the game.
