Google has introduced a new feature in the Android Chrome browser called “Listen to this page”. This feature allows users to have webpages read out loud to them, with playback controls similar to music or podcast players. Users can pause, change the reading speed, and skip forward or back by 10 seconds at a time. Additionally, users have the option to change the voice and language settings, with support for languages such as English, French, German, Arabic, Hindi, and Spanish.
To access the “Listen to this page” feature, users simply need to open a webpage with a lot of text in the Android Chrome browser. They can then tap on the three dots menu and select the “Listen to this page” option, which should be located just below the Translate option. Alternatively, users can utilize Google Assistant to read webpages out loud and even translate them into other languages. However, choosing the Google Assistant option will redirect users to the Google app, while the new feature keeps users within the browser.
Safari for the iPhone also offers a similar feature named “Listen to Page”, which reads webpages aloud in Siri’s voice and includes similar playback controls as Google’s feature. While the functionality is similar, users may find that Google’s feature offers a more seamless experience as it keeps users within the browser environment.
The new “Listen to this page” feature is currently being rolled out by Google and is available in the beta version of Chrome. It is not uncommon for Google to release new features in phases, so users may have to wait before they can access this feature in the stable version of Chrome. Google has also tested the feature for Chrome on desktops, indicating that it may soon be available across multiple platforms.
