The Last of Us Comes Up Short at The Golden Globes: A Disappointing Night for the Critically Acclaimed Show

The highly anticipated and critically acclaimed HBO series, The Last of Us, had a disappointing night at The Golden Globes. Despite receiving three nominations, the show failed to secure any awards, losing out to Succession in all of its categories. The Last of Us had been nominated for best TV series (drama), best performance by a male actor in a TV drama (Pedro Pascal), and best performance by a female actor in a TV drama (Bella Ramsey). However, it was Succession that ultimately claimed the spotlight, with Kieran Culkin and Sarah Snook taking home the awards over Pascal and Ramsey, respectively.

While The Golden Globes may have been a disappointment for The Last of Us, the show did fare better at the Creative Arts Emmys. This adaptation of the popular PlayStation video game franchise received a total of eight awards. Notable wins included Nick Offerman, who played Bill, taking home the award for outstanding guest actor in a drama series, and Storm Reid, who played Riley, winning outstanding guest actress in a drama series.

A Last of Us Prequel Series Pitched to HBO

During an interview with Deadline, Nick Offerman revealed that a Last of Us prequel series based on the characters Bill and Frank had been pitched to HBO. Offerman expressed his enthusiasm for the idea, stating, “I think we pitched a whole mini-series of a prequel of their lives before they met each other. It could be a musical. We’re not short on ideas.” This revelation has sparked excitement among fans of the franchise who are eagerly awaiting the release of The Last of Us: Season 2.

Fans of The Last of Us can look forward to the highly anticipated Season 2, set to arrive in 2025. Production for the new season is scheduled to begin early this year, and one of the biggest additions to the main cast will be Abby from the game The Last of Us: Part II. While the actress for the role has already been chosen, an official announcement has yet to be made.

The Golden Globes may not have recognized The Last of Us, but its success at the Creative Arts Emmys is a testament to its quality. The show’s failure to secure any awards at The Golden Globes may be disappointing, but fans can still be excited for the upcoming Season 2 and the potential prequel series featuring Bill and Frank. The Last of Us continues to captivate audiences with its compelling storytelling and immersive world, making it a force to be reckoned with in the television landscape.
