In a recent blog post, Alderon Games, the developer of the popular dinosaur MMO Path of Titans, announced that they will be replacing their current Intel 13th and 14th Gen based servers with AMD servers. This decision comes as a result of ongoing instability issues that have plagued the game, leading to thousands of crashes on gamers’ CPUs. The founder of Alderon Games, Matthew Cassells, stated that the affected CPUs have shown signs of deteriorating over time, eventually leading to failure.
However, not everyone agrees with Alderon Games’ assessment of the situation. RAD Game Tools, the maker of the Unreal Engine decompression tool, has stated that only a small fraction of the processors are actually affected by the instability issues. This conflicting information adds a layer of complexity to the situation, leaving players and server hosts unsure of who to believe.
Initially, Intel cited improper overclocking settings on motherboards as a potential cause of the crashes. However, this explanation does not account for the crashes seen on server hardware, which should be set more conservatively. The company has been investigating the issue since April when gamers using Intel’s i9-13900K and i9-14900K CPUs began experiencing crashes. While a recent BIOS update seemed to resolve the issue for some, Intel maintains that it is not the root cause of the instability.
The gaming community has been vocal about their experiences with the crashes. A developer from Warframe noted that most of the crashes they recorded were linked to driver failures in Intel’s 13th and 14th Gen processors. However, one staff member reported that installing a recent BIOS update resolved the crashes on their gaming rig. This conflicting feedback only adds to the confusion surrounding the situation.
The decision to swap out Intel servers for AMD servers in Path of Titans has sparked a debate within the gaming community. While Alderon Games claims that the instability issues are widespread and severe, others like RAD Game Tools and Intel offer differing perspectives on the matter. It remains to be seen how this transition will impact the overall performance and stability of the game. Players and server hosts will need to stay informed and cautious as the situation unfolds.
