An El Paso resident found their robovacuum spewing racial slurs at night while another Los Angeles homeowner’s pet was terrorized by the device. According to cybersecurity experts, Ecovacs had been made aware of potential vulnerabilities as early as December 2022, yet users received little to no communication regarding these risks. This lack of transparency has raised serious questions about corporate responsibility in safeguarding consumer devices. As it stands, users are often left in the dark about how their devices can be exploited, and without adequate information, they cannot protect themselves effectively.

Intriguingly, one of the entry points for hackers may be the Bluetooth capabilities of the devices.
