CD Projekt Red recently confirmed during its latest earnings call that The Witcher 4 is one of the studio’s top priorities. With over 400 individual developers dedicated to the game, it is clear that a significant amount of effort is being put into its development. Joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski stated that The Witcher 4 is currently the most developed project at the company, indicating that it will likely be the next major release. However, full production is not expected to begin until the second half of 2024, making the game still several years away from release.
Following the success of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, CD Projekt Red faces high expectations for the sequel. The studio is well aware of the pressure to deliver a game that surpasses its predecessor. With a massive team in place, the goal is to ensure that the vision and scope of The Witcher 4 are clear before moving into full production. CD Projekt Red aims to create a new Witcher game that goes beyond the shadow of The Witcher 3, introducing innovative elements and new gameplay mechanics. Nowakowski emphasized the importance of taking creative risks and pushing boundaries to create a truly groundbreaking sequel.
The development team is determined to make The Witcher 4 a distinct experience from its predecessor. CD Projekt Red is focused on introducing new gameplay elements and mechanics that have not been seen in previous works from the studio. The goal is to create a game that is not just “The Witcher 3 in new clothing,” but a title that takes risks, explores new territory, and builds upon the foundations laid by the franchise. The codename Polaris is currently being used for The Witcher 4’s development, hinting at a project that is still in its early stages but holds great promise for the future.
In addition to The Witcher 4, CD Projekt Red has a number of other projects in the works. These include a remake of the original Witcher game, a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, and a new IP codenamed Hadar. The studio is also collaborating with The Molasses Flood on a spin-off entry in the Witcher series, expanding the universe that fans have come to love. As development continues on these projects, there is much anticipation for what CD Projekt Red will deliver in the coming years.
