Months after its disastrous launch in 2023, Payday 3 developer Starbreeze has recognized the need for significant improvements. In an effort to salvage the co-op FPS and meet players’ expectations, Starbreeze has outlined its plans to revamp the game and deliver the thrilling heisting experience that fans of the Payday series deserve.
Starbreeze acknowledges the dissatisfaction among players with Payday 3’s current state and has taken the feedback into serious consideration. To address these concerns more effectively, the company has assembled a dedicated team of experienced developers from various departments, including design, community, communication, and production. This team will work tirelessly to shape the future of Payday 3 and ensure that it aligns with players’ expectations in both the short and long-term.
Recognizing the importance of transparent communication, Starbreeze plans to release a comprehensive improvement plan in February. This plan will provide detailed information about the upcoming changes and a timeline for their implementation. By sharing this roadmap, the studio aims to keep players informed and regain their trust in the development process.
To actively involve the Payday community, the development team has encouraged players to share their suggestions and ideas on the game’s “FeatureUpvote” forum. This platform allows players to propose improvements that would enhance their overall gaming experience. Notably, suggestions such as the removal of Denuvo, an offline mode, console mouse support, additional ways to earn XP, and more detailed weapon stats have gained significant traction among the players.
Despite the promising plans, Payday 3 continues to face significant challenges. Soon after its release, the game encountered server issues that rendered it unplayable for many players. Consequently, the player base dwindled, as reflected in the low average concurrent player count on Steam. However, Starbreeze remains determined to overcome these obstacles and win back the loyalty of its player community.
While Payday 3 has struggled since its launch, its predecessor, Payday 2, has managed to maintain a dedicated and thriving player base. As it stands, Payday 2 still attracts a daily peak of over 33,000 concurrent players on Steam alone. The enduring popularity of Payday 2 serves as a reminder of what the series is capable of achieving.
With a renewed commitment to quality, transparent communication, and an openness to player feedback, Starbreeze aims to turn the tide for Payday 3. Although significant challenges lie ahead, the studio’s dedication to improving the game and delivering the heisting experience fans expect is commendable. Players can now look forward to the upcoming improvement plan, and it is hoped that these measures will restore confidence in the future of Payday 3.
