For months, I have been contemplating the idea of parting ways with my PlayStation VR2, after a recent eye-opening revelation. The device had been gathering dust in a closet for quite some time, as I waited for Sony to release enticing new games that would reignite my interest. However, after coming across a disheartening report from Android Central, it seems that my hopes were in vain. The future of the PSVR2 appears bleak, with Sony cutting funding for VR games and having only two titles in development.
Initially, I was filled with genuine anticipation for the PSVR2 before its launch. The prospect of playing new games like Horizon and experiencing VR modes in titles such as Gran Turismo 7 and Resident Evil 4 remake was exhilarating. Despite the hefty price tag, I preordered the bundle with Horizon, believing that the investment would be worth it. I even looked forward to immersing myself in the world of VR, having been impressed by previous experiences with other headsets.
Regrettably, my enthusiasm was met with disappointment. While I did enjoy some games like “What The Bat?” and “Runner,” the overall experience fell short of my expectations. Titles such as Gran Turismo 7 and No Man’s Sky provided brief moments of entertainment, but nothing was compelling enough to keep me coming back for more. The setup process was cumbersome, requiring me to connect the PSVR2 to the PS5 every time I wanted to play. Furthermore, the limited mobility tethered me to the living room, isolating me from shared spaces with my partner and making me feel disconnected.
In hindsight, I realize that my decision to purchase the PSVR2 was misguided. Sony’s track record of lackluster support for non-primary platforms should have been a warning sign. The company’s history of neglecting platforms like the PlayStation Vita and the first PSVR should have tempered my expectations. As I contemplate selling the PSVR2 to someone else, I am reminded of the importance of managing expectations and making informed decisions when it comes to investing in gaming technology.
My experience with the PlayStation VR2 serves as a cautionary tale of the perils of unchecked excitement and unrealistic expectations. As I bid farewell to the device, I am left reflecting on the importance of research, critical thinking, and setting realistic expectations when it comes to adopting new technologies in the fast-paced world of gaming.
