The Controversy Surrounding Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection

The release of Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection has been marred by numerous issues, from major server problems to an overwhelmingly large file size. However, recent claims have surfaced alleging that fan-made mod content was included in the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch versions of the collection without proper credit. This has raised concerns within the gaming community and highlighted the importance of recognizing the work of modders.

Modder’s Allegations

Modder iamashaymin took to Twitter to express their frustration after discovering that their mod content for the PC version of the original Star Wars: Battlefront 2 had been included in the re-release without acknowledgement. Specifically, it was reported that the PS5 version of the Classic Collection utilized a mod that introduced the Xbox-exclusive character Asajj Ventress as a reskin of Aayla Secura, complete with different attacking animations. This led to Ventress appearing out of place and not quite right in the game.

Further allegations came to light when iamashaymin shared footage of Kit Fisto, another Xbox-exclusive character they had modded into the PC version, supposedly running on the Nintendo Switch version of the collection. The modder expressed feeling insulted by the inclusion of their work without credit, noting that the content was identical to their mod files, complete with glitches and bugs. Despite Aspyr’s claims that they had quickly patched out the mod files, iamashaymin’s screenshots of their own adaptation of Kit’s projectile move raised questions about the integrity of the Classic Collection.

Aspyr, the developer behind the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection, previously stated that they would not include any uncredited content in the final release. However, iamashaymin’s findings contradicted this claim, leading to speculation about the accuracy of Aspyr’s statements. The modder emphasized that their primary concern was not receiving credit for their work, but rather maintaining the credibility of the developer in the eyes of the gaming community.

The controversy surrounding the inclusion of fan-made mod content in the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection raises important questions about the relationship between developers and modders. Recognizing and crediting the creators of such content is essential in maintaining transparency and trust within the gaming industry. Aspyr’s handling of this situation will undoubtedly impact their reputation among players and modding communities moving forward.
