Disney Speedstorm, the popular fantasy racer developed by Gameloft, is about to enter its seventh season. However, a recent announcement has caused quite a stir among the game’s community. It has been revealed that the premium season pass for Disney Speedstorm will no longer be redeemable with the earnable in-game currency known as ‘Tokens’. This marks a significant departure from the previous six seasons, where players had the option to upgrade to the premium version by using their Tokens. Instead, players will now have to purchase the Premium Pass for $9.99 / €9.99 in real money. Additionally, players have the option to purchase ‘Golden Pass Bundles’ for $19.99 / €19.99 which allow them to skip the first 15 tiers of the pass.
Changes in Season Structure
Aside from the changes in how the premium pass is obtained, there are also significant changes in the structure of the seasons in Disney Speedstorm. Seasons will now be split into two parts, each approximately one month long. Each part will consist of 4-5 Season Tour Chapters, with a free Golden Pass track included in each part. This means that there are now a total of 100 tiers of rewards that can be earned for free. Tiers will now require 1000 XP to complete, a 50% drop from the previous requirement, making rewards quicker to earn.
The announcement of these changes has not been well-received by the player base of Disney Speedstorm. Many players have expressed their disappointment and frustration with the new system, especially those who had been saving up their Tokens to purchase future Gold Passes. Fans on Twitter have described the changes as “terrible” and are concerned about the shift towards a more pay-to-win model in the game.
It remains to be seen how Gameloft will respond to the backlash from the community. Some players are hoping that the developers will reconsider the changes and possibly roll back some of them in future updates. However, given the current trend in the gaming industry towards monetization, it is unlikely that the changes will be reversed. Players who are interested in unlocking all of the content in Disney Speedstorm will now have to be prepared to spend around $30 per season to access all of the rewards and unlocks.
The controversy surrounding Disney Speedstorm’s premium season pass highlights the ongoing debate in the gaming community about the ethics of microtransactions and pay-to-win mechanics. Players must weigh the pros and cons of investing real money in a game to access premium content and decide for themselves whether the new changes are worth it. For now, the future of Disney Speedstorm remains uncertain, as players wait to see how the developers will respond to the feedback and criticism.
