Google has recently made an exciting announcement regarding its Nest Hello doorbell and garage detection feature. This integration allows users to transfer the Nest Hello doorbell from the Nest app to the Google Home app. Additionally, Google has brought its garage door detection feature out of Public Preview, making it accessible to all users with compatible hardware.
Users of the Nest Hello doorbell will soon have the option to transfer their video doorbell to the Google Home app through Google’s Public Preview program. This will enable users to manage the doorbell, view recorded videos, and connect it to other devices within the Google Home ecosystem for automation purposes.
The garage door detection feature, which uses a Nest Cam to alert users when their garage door is left open, has been officially launched for all Nest Aware subscribers in the US and Canada. This feature is compatible with certain Nest Cam models and does not require additional hardware installation as traditional smart garage door controllers do.
Google has been gradually moving its legacy Nest cameras to the Google Home app over the past few years. The Nest Cam Indoor and Nest Cam Outdoor (1st gen) have already been successfully transitioned, with the Nest Hello doorbell being the latest addition. Google has assured users that it is actively working on transitioning additional Nest devices into the Home app, including the Nest Cam IQ indoor and outdoor models.
Despite the ongoing integration efforts, Google has confirmed that it will not be transitioning the OG Dropcams and Nest Secure system, as support for these products was discontinued earlier this year. However, users can expect continued updates and improvements to the Google Home app as more Nest devices are integrated into the platform.
Google’s announcement regarding the integration of the Nest Hello doorbell and garage detection feature into the Google Home app marks a significant step towards creating a seamless and integrated smart home experience for users. With more Nest devices slated for transition to the Home app in the future, users can look forward to enhanced functionality and convenience in managing their smart home devices.
