The Fallout London mod, a project aiming to recreate the nuclear Wasteland in England’s capital, has faced a major setback. The release date, initially set for April 23, has been postponed indefinitely due to Bethesda’s announcement of a hefty next-gen update for Fallout 4 on April 25. According to project lead Dean Carter, the update is likely to “break” many mods, including Fallout London, that rely on the Fallout 4 script extender.
Dean Carter highlights the technical challenges ahead for the Fallout London team. He explains that systems based on the F4 SE, the framework behind dialogue systems in Fallout London and numerous other mods, are likely to malfunction post-update. Additional features such as the updated UI and new perks system will also require fixing. This poses a significant hurdle for the modders, as they will need to wait for fixes from the team behind the extender before proceeding with the release.
In light of these developments, Team Folon is reevaluating their release strategy for Fallout London. Carter mentions that the mod is approximately 30 to 40 gigabytes in size, making it too large for console release or dissemination via mod hosting platforms like NexusMods. However, the team has found a solution to make the mod available for GOG users. Despite this, confirmation regarding the distribution timeline is still pending.
The Fallout London team’s dedication to delivering a polished and stable mod experience is evident in their decision to delay the release in light of the impending next-gen update for Fallout 4. While the setback may disappoint eager players, it underscores the importance of ensuring compatibility and functionality for an optimal gaming experience. As the modding community navigates through these technical challenges, fans can anticipate a more robust and refined Fallout London experience in the future.
