Destiny 2: The Final Shape Launch Faces Server Issues

The launch of Destiny 2: The Final Shape has not been smooth sailing, with substantial server issues causing frustration for many players. However, Bungie has been quick to address the problems and offer apologies to the affected players. In a tweet posted on the evening of the expansion’s launch, Bungie acknowledged the connection issues and assured players that they are working hard to resolve them as quickly as possible. Many of the connection issues have already been fixed, but the studio continues to monitor the situation closely.

Resolving Error Codes

Following the initial tweet, Bungie provided a detailed thread outlining the actions taken to address several of the game’s error codes. For example, Honeydew errors were swiftly resolved by increasing the number of Activity Hosts configured to run on each server. Similarly, Weasel and Plum errors experienced a decrease after server configuration changes were made. Despite these efforts, the question of whether Destiny 2 is down continues to fluctuate, but overall, the game is more playable than it was at launch.

To accommodate the high player population and mitigate server issues, Bungie announced that they would be increasing server capacity throughout the day. While players may encounter queues due to the increased population, the studio’s goal is to ensure that everyone can access the game swiftly. Despite the challenges, Bungie remains committed to providing a stable gaming experience for Destiny 2 players.

Despite the server issues, the new expansion has generated significant interest among players. SteamDB reported that the game’s concurrent player count reached 314,634 on the day of The Final Shape’s launch, even surpassing the record set by the previous expansion, Lightfall. The high player numbers indicate the strong appeal of the new content, despite the initial technical difficulties.

While the launch of Destiny 2: The Final Shape has been marred by server issues, Bungie’s swift response and commitment to resolving the problems demonstrate their dedication to providing a positive gaming experience for players. As the studio continues to monitor and improve server stability, players can look forward to enjoying the new expansion without the hindrance of connectivity issues.
