Acer Unveils Impressive New Gaming Monitors at CES

Acer has made waves in the gaming community with its latest announcement at CES. The company has introduced a range of new gaming monitors, including an impressive 57-inch dual-4K model. Alongside this monstrous display, Acer has also unveiled a selection of OLED and mini-LED panels, each with their own unique features and specifications. In this article, we will delve into the details of these exciting new releases, exploring their capabilities and discussing their potential impact on the gaming market.

Leading the pack is the Acer Predator Z57, a 57-inch monitor that is poised to dominate the gaming arena. With a 32:9 aspect ratio and a VA technology panel, this display offers an immersive gaming experience like no other. While Acer has not explicitly mentioned it, there are striking similarities between this monitor and the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 G95NC. Both devices boast identical headline specifications, making us believe that they may share the same panel supplier.

However, there are a few differences worth noting. Samsung claims to have 2,392 zones for its mini-LED backlight, whereas Acer states its panel has 2,304 zones. Despite this distinction, it is possible that these panels share the same underlying hardware, implemented differently by each manufacturer. One notable limitation of the Acer Predator Z57 is its 120Hz refresh rate, in contrast to the Samsung panel’s 240Hz. However, considering the demanding nature of the dual 4K resolution (7,680 by 2,160 pixels), achieving frame rates above 240fps with current GPUs is a tall order. Furthermore, DisplayPort 2.0 is required to attain 240Hz on this dual-4K monitor, effectively ruling out all existing Nvidia graphics cards.

The pricing of the Acer Predator Z57 raises eyebrows. With an MSRP of $2,499, it matches the Samsung panel’s price despite offering a lower refresh rate. This pricing strategy seems questionable, and many enthusiasts would like to see the Z57 priced well below $2,000 to make it more appealing.

Acer’s new OLED offerings, the Predator X39 and X34, come in sizes of 39 inches and 34 inches, respectively. Both models boast a resolution of 3,440 by 1,440 pixels and a 240Hz refresh rate. The smaller 34-inch variant, with its higher pixel density, is expected to deliver exceptional visuals. Additionally, both displays hold the DisplayHDR 400 True Black certification and offer a claimed response time of 0.01ms.

Unlike the Samsung QD-OLED panels found in the Predator X39 and X34, these monitors employ LG WOLED technology. LG’s latest WOLED panels have closed the gap slightly in terms of full-screen brightness compared to Samsung. As a result, these monitors have the potential to offer superb gaming experiences. However, their respective price tags of $1,499 and $1,299 may deter budget-minded buyers, especially when considering that Alienware’s 34-inch OLED monitor with QD-OLED technology is available for $800.

Taking a departure from OLED, Acer introduces the Predator X34 V3, a 34-inch ultrawide monitor featuring LCD technology and a mini-LED backlight. Boasting 2,304 zones (the same quantity as the 57-inch Z57), a 180Hz refresh rate, and DisplayHDR 1000 certification, this monitor promises a visually stunning experience. Unfortunately, Acer has not disclosed the pricing for this particular model. However, based on the pricing of other Acer monitors, it is safe to assume that the Predator X34 V3 will not come cheap.

Acer’s latest gaming monitor lineup showcased at CES 2022 demonstrates the company’s unwavering commitment to providing high-quality displays to the gaming community. With standout models like the Acer Predator Z57, boasting an impressive 57-inch dual-4K panel, and the OLED offerings of the Predator X39 and X34, Acer presents gamers with a range of enticing options. While some pricing decisions raise eyebrows, there is no denying that Acer has delivered a compelling selection of displays that are sure to enhance any gaming setup. As these monitors make their way into the hands of consumers, it will be exciting to see how they shape the gaming landscape and push the boundaries of what is possible in the world of gaming visuals.
