Google Photos is rolling out a new feature called Collections, which aims to simplify the way users organize their albums. This new destination will house all albums in one place, including private albums, those shared by other users, and new folders for people, pets, documents, and places.
In addition to Collections, Google Photos has also redesigned the search tab. It now features a list of suggested options such as Screenshots, Selfies, and Menus, replacing the previous image tiles. This update is part of the effort to make finding content easier and more intuitive for users.
The introduction of Collections and the redesign of the search tab are aimed at improving the overall user experience on Google Photos. Users can now easily switch between different views like “All,” “Shared with me,” and “My albums” within the Collections tab. The display of folders for “Favorites” and “Trash” at the top of the tab adds convenience for users.
Following user complaints, Google has made some adjustments to the Collections feature. Locked Folders will no longer be suggested at the top of the view, addressing concerns about placement. The Utilities folder is also being removed, but the tools under it will still be accessible by scrolling to the bottom of Collections.
Users can now easily import images and create albums, collages, and highlight videos by tapping the “+” symbol. Managing photo frames and freeing up space on devices now requires users to tap their Google Photos account profile, streamlining the process and making it more user-friendly.
Overall, the introduction of Collections on Google Photos represents a significant step towards improving the organization and accessibility of albums for users. By incorporating user feedback and making adjustments based on user behavior, Google is demonstrating its commitment to providing a seamless and intuitive user experience on the platform.
