The latest rumours surrounding the potential release of the Nintendo Switch 2 have been making waves in the gaming community. According to Chinese peripheral manufacturer Mobapad, the successor to the Switch will be a “conservative evolution” of the current models, resembling a refined Pro model. The new system is said to feature a larger screen with support for 1080p resolution, a significant upgrade from the current 720p resolution on the existing Switch consoles.
One of the most intriguing aspects of the rumoured Switch 2 is the new Joy-Con controllers, which are expected to be larger and feature an ‘electromagnetic suction docking structure’ controlled by electric current. The ‘ZL’ and ‘ZR’ buttons are said to be metallic, and the controllers will include a completely new button on both the left and right sides. Additionally, a new function button has reportedly been added below the Home button on the right Joy-Con.
Perhaps the most exciting news for current Switch owners is that the Switch 2 is said to be fully backward compatible with both digital and physical Switch games. The console will feature a cartridge slot that allows for the insertion of current Switch game cartridges. Furthermore, existing Switch Joy-Con controllers and Pro Controllers will be compatible with the new system. However, it is speculated that the Joy-Cons may only work remotely due to the new magnetic structure.
The docking station for the Switch 2 is expected to function similarly to the current models, with some improvements. The new dock will include a metal damping bracket for better angle adjustment and will support 4K resolution. While the appearance of the dock may be slightly different, the core functionality will remain consistent with the original design.
While the rumours surrounding the Nintendo Switch 2 are certainly exciting for fans of the popular console, it is essential to remember that all information at this point should be considered speculative until officially confirmed by Nintendo. It is crucial to approach these rumours with caution, as past experiences with inaccurate leaks have shown the importance of waiting for official announcements. As tempting as it may be to get swept up in the hype, it is always best to exercise patience and skepticism when it comes to unverified information in the gaming industry.
