Escape From Tarkov’s developer recently faced backlash from players after the release of a new $250 Unheard edition of the game. In response to the uproar, Battlestate Games studio head took to Reddit to address the issue. The studio head emphasized that the new co-op PvE mode is not classified as DLC and therefore not included in the previously advertised $150 Edge Of Darkness edition. This distinction sparked controversy among players who were promised access to all future DLC with their initial purchase.
According to the studio head, DLC is considered to be major additions to the game, typically released after the official launch. These additions include new functionality and content that expand on the original gameplay experience. The co-op PvE mode, however, does not fall under this definition, hence the decision to exclude it from the Edge Of Darkness edition.
Another factor at play is the studio’s current server infrastructure, which is not equipped to support all Edge Of Darkness owners accessing the new PvE mode. The studio recognizes the dissatisfaction among players and has assured that the PvE mode will be available for free to all Edge Of Darkness owners upon the game’s completion and server infrastructure improvement. In the meantime, players have the option to test the mode by purchasing the Unheard edition or upgrading to it with a 50% discount.
Player Backlash
The responses from Reddit users reflect a sense of disappointment and frustration regarding the situation. Many players feel misled by the initial promise of comprehensive DLC access with the Edge Of Darkness edition. The delay in providing access to the new mode, coupled with the necessity of purchasing an upgrade, has left players feeling dissatisfied with the developer’s handling of the situation.
Looking Towards the Future
As Escape From Tarkov continues to evolve and expand, it will be crucial for Battlestate Games to maintain transparency and open communication with their player base. Addressing concerns and feedback in a timely and considerate manner will be essential in fostering a positive relationship with the community. Ultimately, the success of the game and its long-term sustainability will depend on the developer’s ability to navigate controversies such as the Unheard edition debacle.
